Communication at the INVTUR 2024 International Conference – Aveiro
The University of Aveiro hosted the International Conference “INVTUR 2024: Tourism in Unforeseen Times – In Search of New Directions,” which took place from May 8 to 10 of this year.
Among the accepted presentations, researchers from the PACTUAL team shared their work on the tourist experience in the Alentejo region and the preliminary results of their research focused on domestic visitors.

CIDEHUS Podcast – A Conversation with Tourism | Episode #2 Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Alentejo in Interview
Professor Noémi Marujo, coordinator of the PACTUAL project – Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Alentejo: Motivations and Experiences of the Portuguese Visitor – is invited for a guided conversation with researchers José Carola and Vitorina Baptista about tourism, scientific research, and the valorization of cultural heritage in the region. The discussion also covers the objectives and contributions of the PACTUAL results for regional development and academic knowledge.

European Researchers’ Night | NEI Évora 2024
ASTO once again partnered with Researchers’ Night, which took place on September 27, 2024, in Évora. The observatory team introduced the PACTUAL project – Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Alentejo: motivations and experiences of the portuguese Visitor – inviting attendees to “discover” and test their general knowledge about Alentejo’s cultural heritage and geography through an interactive activity. Additionally, they offered a fun way for both kids and adults to explore the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a dynamic giant “glory” game titled “Long Live the Goals!” Aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging reflection on global issues, particularly environmental, social, and economic sustainability, this initiative showcased ASTO’s work and fostered community engagement, coinciding with this year’s World Tourism Day celebration.

Internacional Conference Social Changes in the South: Interdisciplinary Approcahes
Between the 24th and 25th of October, the International Conference on Social Change in the South – Interdisciplinary Approaches took place at Colégio do Espírito Santo, organized by CIDEHUS – Interdisciplinary Center for Histories, Cultures and Societies, in order to explore the social changes of the South in an open, plural and global way. The PACTUAL team was present at the panel Enrichment of the tourist experience through the enhancement of cultural heritage, making two communications. The first was in charge of the Research Coordinator Professor Noémi Marujo, who presented the context of the project, the defined objectives, the process used for data collection and processing and the main results of the sample. The second communication was in charge of the fellow researchers José Carola and Vitorina Baptista, abou the results of the study on the identification and segmentation of the profiles of tourists and domestic visitors according to the types of experience lived in the destination.

Conference on Tourism and Cultural Heritage: Experiences and Motivations of Visitors
On November 8th, at 2:00 p.m., in the Amphitheater of the Colégio do Espírito Santo (Room 131) at the University of Évora, PACTUAL organized the conference titled Tourism and Cultural Heritage: Experiences and Motivations of Visitors. The event, organized by the project team under the coordination of Professor Dr. Noémi Marujo, aligns with the research focus that PACTUAL has been developing in recent months. It served as a moment for sharing and transferring knowledge on cultural tourism, the relationship with heritage, and the characterization of visitors. Participants included Prof. Dr. Jaime Serra, Deputy Director of CIDEHUS; Prof. Dr. Mariana Carvalho, Director of the Tourism undergraduate program at ESEC-IPC and integrated researcher at CITUR, who discussed the dimension of cultural and multisensory experiences in the context of gastronomic tourism; and Prof. Dr. Alexandra Gonçalves, who provided a broad and contextualized perspective on the work she has been developing in the field of cultural and creative tourism. The closing session was led by Prof. Dr. Noémi Marujo.
